This semi-evergreen perennial is a very fast-spreading groundcover. It is a variant of the species (Isotoma fluviatilis, also known as Pratia pedunculata) with deep blue flowers rather than the usual pale blue. It produces longer and slightly larger stolons, allowing it to spread more quickly than the more common form. The foliage is less resistant to low temperatures, but the plant reliably regrows each year thanks to its thin underground rhizomes.
