Hybrid between Magnolia liliflora and M. denudata. Originally created by Etienne Soulange-Bodin during the 20s of the 19th century, this plant is still one of the most popular flowering trees in Europe and the United States. It often grows as a multi-stemmed shrub plant but can be formed as a small tree. The massive blooms in early spring appear before the leaves, but sometimes fewer flowers continue to bloom after the leaves emerge. The plant has a well rounded canopy which makes it an ideal landscape specimen. It has pinkish-white flowers.
