Elsholtzia stauntonii 'Alba'
New
E. stauntonii is a deciduous, rounded shrub with aromatic, toothed leaves that turn red in autumn and with dense, terminal, upright, tubular flower spikes. The 'Alba' variety flowers white from late summer to fall. In spring it is cut low and then revegetated completely. The leaves taste like a mixture of cumin, mint and lemon, so they are used for herbal teas and go well with legumes or in salads, but they can also replace bay leaf.
